For weeks we’ve been talking about the Einstein Coat, and finally the knit-along has arrived. Everyone I’ve talked to wants to make one “just like Paula’s.” Wait a minute. This coat is a great, classic design just as it is. I knit mine exactly per the pattern, and I’m very happy with it. What’s the big deal with Paula’s Einstein coat? What makes her coat so fabulous?
Then I saw Paula’s coat. It was spectacular. And she looks spectacular in it. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but I understood. I wanted one just like Paula’s too.
So, what makes Paula’s take on this garment so special? Let’s take a look.
First, she made it shorter for easier wearing in the car. This length, which hits her mid thigh is a very pleasing proportion – a golden mean perhaps, for those of you who are into phi and all that.
Paula added a crocheted trim of coordinating “Touch Me” rayon chenille around all the raw edges and used purchased frogs to close the coat. Overall, it’s the nicest example of an Einstein Coat that I’ve ever seen. Sally Melville would have to agree.
