Last week while I was updating my website with the newsletter link, I saw a folder I didn’t recognize among my website files. On investigation I found that my site had been hacked and MANY gigabytes of unpleasant data had been placed there along with a script giving some unknown entity the right to remotely upload more such foul media at will. Ack. I was pretty freaked out, so I did what I always do when I’m freaked out about my website – I texted my daughter, Elizabeth. She calmed me down and assured me that it wasn’t personal. Apparently bad people hack sites all the time in order to get a free ride for their noxious material. Geez.
So I busied myself with getting a new hosting company and transferring my data to the new host, which, my friends, is not at all simple, straightforward, or intuitive, despite what the hosting companies all tell you. I have been at this since Wednesday, and I only just accomplished the final task. So now www.crazyforewe.com is hosted on a new server that I hope will keep it safe and sound, and protect it from virtual parasites. This new server will also host my blog, and eventually an on-line shopping function. How cool is that!
So here’s what I want to tell you:
- Don’t freak out if the website is down or a little touchy over the next 24 hours. We are not going out of business. If the site doesn’t come up immediately, clicking F5 (Refresh) on your keyboard may help
- Expect changes to the location of the blog over the next couple of weeks. I will make every effort to keep links up to date, but you might have to update any links to the blog, or to your rss feed. I apologize for the hassle. Please know that I do really appreciate you reading the blog and the newsletter. It’s wonderful to connect with you through both these media.
- Let me know how you like the changes. Change is hard, but change is growth, and it’s all good.
